Bathroom Ideas

You’ll spend plenty of time staring up at it when relaxing in the bath, so why not check out these 5 bathroom ceiling ideas?

Bathroom ceiling

Modern housing stock tends to come with relatively low ceilings to maximise space and heat efficiency, however, if you live in an older property you may be blessed with soaring ceilings that give your rooms a more spacious feel, yet prove a problem when it comes to maintenance.

If you think about it, when you relax in the bath, you will spend much of your time staring up at the ceiling, so instead of troubling yourself about mould or damp, why not have something worth looking at?

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at 5 bathroom ceiling ideas that you could consider.

1. Chandelier

One of the main ways to make a feature of your ceiling is to splash out a little on lighting.

A ceiling rose is a decorative fixture, often found in older properties, which brings focus to the central lighting fixture.

If you’re looking for something that really makes a statement, why not add a chandelier? They work exceptionally well with traditional style bathrooms but can be used in contemporary settings to great effect.

Ensure yours is a specialist bathroom chandelier which is suitable for use in rooms where moisture and splashes could occur.

Other modern lighting ideas for your ceiling include a "night sky" effect. By fitting miniature LEDs to your ceiling, you can bathe beneath the light of dozens of twinkling "stars".

2. Colour blocking

Looking for easy bathroom ceiling ideas? Instead of a plain white ceiling, why not add a colour? Don’t go for dark walls and a dark ceiling though, as it will make your bathroom feel oppressive.

On-trend colours include greys, blush and amber. If you are set to do this, make sure you use a specialist bathroom paint which contains an anti-mould formula. If you skimp on this, you could end up with an unappealing peeling ceiling (try saying that in a hurry!) or, worse, unsightly mould.

Of course, with paint, you can let your creativity run wild. If you're going for a vintage look, why not consider a hand-painted mural or motif design? It'll certainly add a more personal touch to your room.

3. Wallpaper...or should that be "Ceilingpaper"?

How’s this for an “off the wall” idea? Many homeowners are turning to wallpaper when it comes to decorating their ceilings.

As we all know, wallpaper is wonderfully cost-effective, offering an array of colours, designs and styles. Yet, many people wouldn’t consider it for their ceiling— but there really is nothing to stop you! As long as you choose bathroom wallpaper (i.e. wallpaper which is washable and resistant to mould and moisture), you can really go to town on that boring old bathroom ceiling.

4. Wood or wood effect

If you’re lucky enough to live in a home with exposed wooden beams, you can certainly base your bathroom theme around them. Why not create a rustic, farmhouse look or “get on-board” with a nautical-themed bathroom?

As bathroom ceiling ideas go, adding faux wooden beams might be one of the trickiest and costliest to pull off, but the effects are stunning.

If you’re working to a tight budget, why not use painting techniques or buy specialist bathroom ceiling panels or tiles to create the appearance of wood?

5. Concrete effect

Industrial style bathrooms (like the one pictured above) enjoy enduring popularity and it’s not hard to see why.

To make the industrial theme work throughout your bathroom, why not add a concrete effect ceiling? It’s easy to achieve the desired look with the right choice of paint and a little technique.
