Expert tips for small bathroom ideas
1. Create a combo
If you are tackling the challenge of laying out your small bathroom neatly and conveniently, then combinations will be your best friend.
Making use of a combination vanity unit is an ideal way to maximise your space. Combining the basin and toilet into one single unit places the focus point of 2 features into one area, saving space for your other essentials.
If you don’t want to have to choose between a shower and a bath, why not combine the two?
Shower baths have been around for years, and there’s a simple reason why. By incorporating the ease of a shower, and the relaxation of a bath, they are the perfect practical solution that means you don’t have to sacrifice either one!
2. Don’t forget the corners
Don't let your corners go to waste! Utilise them by implementing storage units. These come in a variety of sizes, with tall ones making use of all of the empty space, from floor to ceiling.
Another way to use this oft-forgotten area is with a corner toilet. This is a unique feature that can instantly improve the layout of an awkwardly shaped room, like a cloakroom or en suite.
3. Master the art of zoning
With over 8,000 monthly searches for the best way to lay out a walk-in shower in a small bathroom, we want to introduce you to the art of zoning.
Zoning is a brilliant trick for anyone with a small bathroom who wants to avoid clunky partitions that chop up the space. When you're working with limited room, keeping things open is key. Clever zoning lets you create distinct areas without closing things off, giving your bathroom a sense of flow while still defining different spaces. It’s a simple way to make the most of a tight spot—no walls required!
By zoning your walk-in shower area with different colours, tiles, accessories, and your shower screen, it will make the space feel less closed in and more breathable.
4. Make time for tiles
Tiles are the perfect way to create textures and patterns in your bathroom. Different styles and colours can help break up the room and can add some interesting design elements to your decor.
Using rectangular tiles in a chevron pattern or styling hexagonal tiles will create movement, making the room feel more spacious. You can also use this technique with fish-scale tiles for a splashback, which will help zone your basin area.
5. Consider your colours
Making the most of your colour palette will also give your bathroom a more spacious feel. Whites, neutrals, and soft pastels work wonders for creating a bright, airy atmosphere. While bold, rich colours might be tempting, they often end up making the room feel more like a cosy cupboard than the relaxing sanctuary you're aiming for. So, it's best to save those richer shades for your vanity unit and toilet seat.
Methodology
Using Ahrefs we investigated the keyword "bathrooms" in the UK, to find the related topics people are searching for most. The word "small" was the most commonly featured word amongst keywords, making up 21,000 monthly searches of keywords including both "small" and "bathrooms". This was joint with "easy" but this was removed as our methodology excludes brand names (Easy Bathrooms is a brand name)
