How to Clean White Floor Tiles
White floor tiles can be a pain to keep clean. Find out the best ways to clean your white tiles without damaging them, as well as how to keep them looking new!
There’s nothing worse than seeing marks on your white floor tiles. Whether you’re a clean freak or just want to make sure your white tiles stay looking as fresh as the day you installed them, they can be tricky to maintain.
Due to their light colour, white tiles will show marks, debris and mould easier than darker coloured tiles. This means that you might have a tougher job keeping them looking clean! Gloss tiles will be easier to clean compared to matt tiles although they can also be susceptible to staining. However, there are ways to keep on top of it to make sure your white tiles stay white.
Cleaning White Floor Tiles
Cleaning supplies:
- Water
- A Lemon
- Detergent/Disinfectant
- A mop & Bucket
- Toothbrush
- Bicarbonate Soda
Step 1: Clean out that grout
It’s important to start with the grout first, especially when cleaning white tiles. This is because any of the mould or build up you remove might end up spilling over onto your tiles, resulting in further staining if you don’t clean them after.
Grab a cup or bowl and add some bicarbonate soda and a squeeze of lemon. Mix them together until they form a paste. Start applying the paste along your grout with a small brush or toothbrush, and scrub it in. Make sure you pay particular attention to the worst affected areas.
Step 2: Let it sit
Leave the paste to sit on the grout for around 30 mins. This will allow the solution to soak in and free up any dirt. Then simply rinse the solution away with water.
Step 3: Time to mop
Fill up a mop bucket with hot water and add lemon juice to the mix. You can also add your favourite detergent or disinfectant here too, for an extra sparkly finish.
Step 4: Keep mopping
Once your solution is made, start mopping your tiles while the water is still hot. Make sure all the areas of your tiles and grout are tackled but of course pay more attention to the areas that look particularly in need of a clean. Keep mopping until your tiles brighten up and sparkle.
Step 5: For a lint free finish
For an extra step, take a lint free cloth and wipe down all the surfaces. Not only with this remove any residue streaks, but it will also stop any lint from sticking to your newly cleaned tiled whilst the area dries.
How to maintain white floor tiles
Whilst a regular deep clean will always be needed, there are some other things you can do to protect your white tiles and keep them clean for longer. After a deep clean you can follow it up with some stain preventing sealant. Topping up your grout with a grout pen is also a great way to keep things looking fresh as it revives the grout you have, without having to replace it entirely.
Avoiding harsh chemicals and bleaches when cleaning can also help protect and maintain your floor tiles. Brushes with harsh bristles should also be avoided when cleaning both matt and gloss tiles because they can scratch the finish, leaving more grooves for dirt to sit in.
