How to Install a Rainfall Shower Head
Adding a rainfall shower head is a great way to transform your bathroom into an elegant, sophisticated space. And installing one is easier than you think!
A Rainfall Shower Head is designed to mimic rainfall. The large surface allows for a steady and even water flow that imitates rainfall, which makes your shower experience more luxurious and relaxing.
Despite being larger than your average shower head, you do not need to worry about them looking bulky and out of place. Rainfall shower heads come in a wide variety of styles such as modern and square, traditional and round, some even come with LED lights to make for the ultimate showering experience! Whatever your style, you can guarantee that you will find the perfect rainfall shower head to incorporate into your bathroom.
So, once you have decided which rainfall shower head you would like in your bathroom, it’s time to install it, and this is much easier than you think. There is no need to rip out your shower as a rainfall shower head can be installed right on to your existing shower. You will only need to put in the extra work if you decide to mount your shower head where there are no shower fittings, like on your ceiling. If you wish to do this, we recommend hiring a professional to fit one for you.
What You Will Need
Before you install your new shower head, there are a few things that you will need.
- Tape Measure
- Mole Grip Pliers
If your existing shower has low water pressure, then you will need a shower pump to increase the pressure in your shower.
If you are using a shower head holder for your current shower head, you may need to purchase a shower extension arm so that your rainfall shower head will fit. Some shower heads will come with an extension arm already, like the Cruze Slim Rainfall Shower Head with Flexible Hose.
Installing a Rainfall Shower Head
1. Measure
Before you do anything, using your tape measure, you will need to measure the height from the ceiling to the top of your current shower head. This is important as a rainfall shower head is larger than a standard shower head. So you may have to move your existing shower arm or shower head holder so that it is higher up the wall. Otherwise, there is the risk that your new shower head will be too low when you come to use it.
2. Remove The Old Shower Head
After measuring your current shower head and, if needed, adjusting the height, you can say goodbye to that old shower head and say hello to your new, rainfall shower head! If your current shower head has been mounted for a while, you may find it difficult to unscrew with your hands. So, using your mole grip pliers, you can unscrew the shower head and remove it from the arm or hose.
3. Add Your Rainfall Shower Head
With your old shower head removed you can attach your new rainfall shower head. To do this, simply screw the shower head on to the end of the fixing or hose. Then, using your mole grip pliers, tighten the shower head. Take extra care when doing this as you do not want to over tighten it or damage the finish!
4. Test Your Shower
Now that your new shower head is securely attached to your fixing, you need to test your shower to ensure that there are no faults and the water pressure is adequate. If the pressure is too low, you can get the same rainfall effect. This is because the water needs to travel further as the surface is much larger. If the pressure is too low, then you will want to add your shower pump. If you are unsure about which water pump to choose, you can have a read through our Shower Pump Guide.
5. Rain On Me
With your rainfall shower head installed, your showering experience will be relaxing and therapeutic. Embrace the rainfall sensation every time you shower! With the correct cleaning methods and maintenance, your rainfall shower head will last a long time.
